TAPPS 6A DIVISION one state championship!
The season came to a challenging conclusion for TMI Episcopal on Saturday night as the Panthers fell to Parish Episcopal School 62–48 in the state championship game. The matchup took place in Waco, Texas, where both teams met on a neutral court to battle for the title after impressive playoff runs.
For the Panthers, representing San Antonio, reaching the state championship was a major accomplishment and a testament to the hard work the team put in throughout the season. Fighting through a competitive schedule and postseason bracket, TMI earned the chance to compete for a championship against one of the top programs in the state.
From the opening tip, the energy inside the arena reflected the importance of the moment. Fans from both schools filled the stands, creating a loud and intense atmosphere fitting for a state title matchup. Parish came out strong early, moving the ball well and finding scoring opportunities that allowed them to settle into an offensive rhythm.
TMI worked hard defensively and tried to push the pace whenever possible, but Parish’s defense made it difficult for the Panthers to consistently find their offensive flow. One of the biggest storylines of the game was Parish’s focus on containing TMI’s top scoring threat, Elijah Williams. Their defensive strategy proved effective, limiting Williams to just 10 points on the night.
With Williams facing constant pressure, the Panthers had to search for offense from other parts of their lineup. While TMI continued to battle and compete, Parish managed to keep control of the game with steady execution on both ends of the court.
A major factor in the outcome was the standout performance from Parish guard Hudson Lucas. Lucas stepped up on the championship stage, taking over key stretches of the game and delivering several big scoring plays. His ability to create offense and capitalize on opportunities helped Parish build and maintain their lead throughout the contest.
As the game moved into the second half, Parish gradually widened the gap. Their consistent scoring combined with strong defensive pressure prevented TMI from making a major run. Each time the Panthers attempted to close the distance, Parish responded with timely baskets that kept momentum on their side.
Adding even more attention to the championship game was the presence of basketball legend Tim Duncan in the crowd. The former San Antonio Spurs superstar attended the game to support his son, Draven Duncan, who plays for TMI Episcopal. Duncan’s presence drew excitement from fans in attendance, as one of the greatest players in NBA history watched the state championship from the stands.
Despite the Panthers’ determination and effort, Parish maintained control in the final minutes and secured the 62–48 victory to claim the state title.
Although the loss was a difficult way to end the season, TMI’s journey to the state championship remains a significant accomplishment. Competing on the biggest stage in Waco, Texas showcased the team’s talent, resilience, and dedication throughout the year.
For the players, coaches, and fans who supported the Panthers along the way, the experience of reaching the state championship will be a moment to remember—one that reflects the hard work and commitment that defined their season.
